British Endodontic Society Research Awards
Any UK based member of the BES is eligible as the lead researcher.
Decided annually, according to available funds. In 2010/11 three awards will be granted to the value of up to £5,000 towards equipment and materials for a research project being carried out in the UK by qualified dentists. Any money not allocated in one year will be carried forward for future awards. The field of study must be endodontology.
Five copies of the applications should be submitted to the Administrative Secretary by 1st January each year. The applicant should submit a detailed protocol of the project, details of the equipment or materials required and a copy of their curriculum vitae. It should be accompanied by a supporting letter from the Head of Department / School if the work is to be conducted in a dental school. Retrospective claims will not be considered.
Applications will be considered by the BES research panel appointed by BES Council and successful candidates will be notified by the administrative secretary of the society.
Payment of the grant will be phased according to study design and equipment needs. In all cases the final installment of payment will be given only on completion of the study and a final report is submitted for assessment by BES research panel. It is expected that successful applicants will present their work in the form of a poster at the BES Spring Scientific Meeting.
The grants will be awarded to the successful applicants at the Regional Meeting in November or at the Spring Scientific Meeting in following March. They will be reimbursed for any travelling and hotel accommodation expenses.
Publication
The Society will require a written report on the progress of the research project within one year of the granting of the award. Any publication arising from a study receiving a research grant must make acknowledgement of the award, and should be offered in the first instance to the International Endodontic Journal, which will apply its usual criteria for the acceptance of manuscripts.
