Aspiring Endodontic Researcher

About the award

At the British Endodontic Society we wish to encourage research at an early stage in a dentist’s career.  The BES Early Careers Group offers a new annual award for the best systematic review or research project in the field of Endodontology submitted by an Early Careers Dentist.

Eligibility and entry requirements

The prize is open to any member of the Society who is either (1) An Early Careers Dentist or (2) Enrolled on, and currently undertaking, a postgraduate degree course or within 12 months of completion of such a course.  Joint entries are acceptable.

Submission of either:

  1. A systematic  review of an endodontic subject of your choice.
  2. Original research project in the field of Endodontology.

Submission of the full review or research project is required for judging.  The top three will be selected for a 15 minute oral presentation during the Regional Meeting in the autumn, after which the winner will be selected.  The three finalists will be offered complimentary registration to the meeting.

The entry must be written in English and must be typed in double spacing and submitted in pdf format.  Entries will need to be suitable for electronic submission.  Reviews or research submitted for other BES prizes must not be resubmitted.  There is no specific word limit.

Award of the prize

The winner shall receive a prize of £1000.  In the case of a joint entry the prize money will be shared between the authors of the submission.  The winner will be announced at the Regional Meeting.  The winner/s will also be invited to present details of their project at the Spring Scientific Meeting the following year.  The Society will also have the right to publish details of the project in the International Endodontic Journal, subject to the usual editorial reviewing procedures.

The council of the BES will appoint the judging panel, whose decision will be final.  No individual feedback will be given.  The prize will be awarded by the Council of the BES on recommendation of the judges.  The Council reserves the right to withhold the prize if the standard of the submissions is not of sufficient merit.  The successful candidate must permit the publication of photographs for the purpose of promoting the winner and the BES.
